Habits, Choices, the conscious and the subconscious mind

Habits and choices are what we talk about when we talk about our new year resolutions. Change is usually a big part of our plans for the future.

These plans are determined by how we perceive our past and how we want our future to look like. Habits and choices play a very big part in our well-being.

People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their future. F.M ALEXANDER

I have no doubt you know about how our thoughts determine how we react to a subject. It is our thoughts and not what happens, that is the main cause of who we become. Thoughts turn into habits and well, our habits determine who we become by the choices we make.

It isn’t hard to understand that the values we hold are there because of what we have been exposed to throughout our lives. That is why psychologists always want to know about your life to determine how to help you. A clear depiction of how our thoughts become our values is shown in this post from my Facebook page (link) https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100067158495000

So… the question is, how do we make sure that bad habits do not determine our future?

We all know how difficult it is to change a habit. That is, we all have habits that need some work.

It is common knowledge that you have to work on changing a habit, consciously, every single day.  Some say that it can take twenty-one days or more to achieve the wanted goal. This does work for some people, but it does need a lot of dedication and passion.

What if your habit seems to have a stronger determination to live its best life?

What if you have spent years trying out different ways of changing a habit.

As a life coach, I believe some habits need more than talk therapy.

There are thought patterns that need more than logic to change.

Sometimes, we need to just lay back and let our subconscious do the work. After all, that is where our most creative mind resides.

Many people have had a lot of success with habits by letting a therapist guide them through the process of change. Changing a thought pattern comes in handy when you know what you want to change. What if you don’t? Relaxing and letting your wiser subconscious mind do the work is a valid alternative.

As a doctor can help diagnose and prescribe a cure for a physical disease, a therapist can guide you, to you change your thought pattern. This can be done with NLP or Hypnotherapy in a much shorter time without going through traumatic incidents.

To do that, one needs to be open to new ways of healing.

The fact that we try to solve our problems the same way every time, is very common. Taking new paths is always a brilliant idea if the problem is persistent.

Have a happy new year and make sure you do something that’s important to you. Never let someone else’s plans for you, be more important than your own. Don’t let someone else’s thoughts about you, impact you more than what and who you truly are… unless what they say is:-

  • Positive
  • Good advice
  • Aligned with what you feel is right.
