PERSONAL GROWTH AND DECISION MAKING
We all know that we use our brains to make decisions. The difference is how much we are aware of how and why we make those decisions. Knowing what is at play, when we choose as we do is important if we want to make choices and form habits that have value.
Here are three things you should be aware of when you make decisions that might affect you for a long time.
-
CALM YOUR FRENZY
Whether we are working on a work project, our relationships, or our personal well-being, we need to have a reasonable amount of awareness about what value our decision has.
We have all heard about people talking about their “gut feeling” or “I believe that is the right thing to do.” These phrases do not come from knowing why you choose as you do, but more like using your sixth sense.
There is a more proactive way you can make valuable decisions.
One of the ways of coming to a decision is finding quiet space and if you are not someone who meditates, then a simple breathing exercise before you embark on whatever you are going to do can be more helpful than you think.
It is important that you do not stay in your mind or be distracted, it is a good idea to find a time when you can take a few minutes for this exercise. If your mind is easily distracted by thoughts, try holding your hand to your breast, so that you feel your heartbeat while you breathe slowly in, then hold and then out and hold. Do this a few times.
This is an easy exercise that helps you focus on what you are about to do, or if you are just ready to free your mind of thoughts that do not serve you.
In my sessions, I go deeper into the three types of awareness we use depending on what we are doing.
-
LISTEN TO YOUR EMOTIONS
We can have positive and negative emotions that can be categorized into nine types of emotions that Scientist and Havard Holistic life coach called Margaret Moore has named The Inner Family.
When we think of emotions, we tend to think that we should only focus on the positive ones. This is not true… that is why a lot of people bury their negative emotions, making it impossible to work on them to uncover the Yang of their Yin for the emotion.
For example, let’s look at Autonomy.
Autonomy is how we look at our self-interests. The downside or yin of our self-interest is when we put our interests aside to support someone else’s. Whereas the upside is being in control and makes choices solely guided by what we believe to be of value to us.
We are in no way in a good position in relation to other people when we either have our way all the time or not at all.
We want a balance and have an awareness of our emotions that helps us make the right decision. Choices give us value and therefore make us happy.
The understanding of how we function can help us make the right life choices in any given situation.

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
Last but not least, our body intelligence is a very crucial part of decision making. Many people listen to health gurus who tell them about the right weight and the right food combinations that will take them from one unwanted place to a better one.
Of course, Knowledge is the key if you want to make the right choices about what food to try out, but there is one thing that no one but you can help you with. That is, what foods agree with your body.
It is very important to be aware of how you feel when you eat something. Listen to your body. Not only when you eat something, but how much you eat. Try new things and keep what works for you.
This will only give good results if you stick with your healthy lifestyle. Good habits lead to a healthier body, mind, and soul.
Ask yourself questions that help you find out if a trigger for craving is positive or negative.
Remember to exercise and also here, listen to your body even when you have a personal trainer. You are the master of your body and although it is wonderful to have a motivator and guide, you should take control.
